I have a problem with an HP LaserJet 2200 printer attached to a HP JetDirect 500X. The printer will print a couple of pages and then stop. All of the lights remain on and the only way to continue printing is to cycle the power. The printer works fine when attached directly to a workstation. I have 18 other HP printers (4V, 4000, 5’s, 6P’s, and 2100’s) on my network attached to JetDirect print servers and they work fine. I have the latest drivers installed. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Try to do a cold reset on the printer if something is corrupt in the printers memory. Also check you local network for timeout settings. If printing large jobs or PDF documents, try and use a Postscript driver. (To perform a cold reset, hold down the start button while powering on the printer. Make sure no networkcards are installed in the printer during this, as they will get reset too ! The networkcard might also need to be reset if the timout settings has gotten corrupted somehow.

There is no problem with the printer; it works fine attached to a workstation. When I connect it to a print server it hangs between jobs. I’ve used every driver available for this model printer, nothing helps.

If the printer works OK when directly connected without the JD card, then then problem is probably located on the JD card. Try and download the latest firmware and do a upgrade on the JD card. ( sure to add the IPX/SPX protocol before trying to do the upgrade, as it is required to perform the firmware upgrade of the JD card. Also have you checked if the other printers you have work with the JetDirect 500X ?

Thanks but I thought of that also … I have tried it with three different print servers, two HP JetDirect 500x and a 170x and I still have the same problem. I've also been able to setup other HP printers on these servers without any issues.
