Hp LaserJet 1200 USB

I have an HP LaserJet 1200 series printer. I am trying to get it work with a Titanium powerbook via the USB connection. I am running OS 9.2.2. I have tried to download the software for the printer and install it but that did not get it working. I was unable to print to the printer and the Powerbook would freeze up during the configuration of the printer. Usually just after you choose to use a USB printer. HP sent me an alternate set of instructions, including how to uninstall already installed HP Components. So starting fresh basically. They said to install the printer using the desktop printer utility. Which I tried and it seemed to go ok until I tried to print something. I now get the following error message:

Connection could not be established to USB Printer error -8878

anyone have any other suggestions?

Can you try hooking this printer to any other USB equipped computer? Sounds like there is a fault in the controller card of the printer. Hope it has a warranty.
