Hi all,

I am currently trying to use a HP laserjet 1000 usb with a Linksys PSUS4 print server. The setup goes fine and the HP drivers install with no issues. However, when I try to print anything through the print server the printer just sits there...not a thing!
I have tested the printer directly on a pc and also tried the print server with another printer (not laserjet1000) and its works fine. My Question is I suppose, can this printer be used on a print server? I have been told that it cannot due to it being a very basic model?? ANyone shed any ligth on this for me?

Thanks!

I dont think it will work with a print server as it is a host based printer. Which means it dose not have a built in processor and relies on the host (computer you install it on) cpu to generate printable pages. I have one in my network, but the only way we got it to work was sharing off a PC and using the host based printer driver on HP's site. As the wrong printer driver is installed off the CD and you get PCL errors.

Ok. Thanks. Does this mean then that I would need a printer with an on-board processor to get it to work with a print server? Or would I just need a printer with a non-host based driver?

Yes, you should be good as long as it is not host based printer. Unless anyone else has proof otherwise? I havent had problems.
