Hello,
When I print from my HP laserjet 4 plus. It makes my computer reboot. Looked in HP printer support, but didn't see anything.

This started the other day, and the person says they haven't changed anything.

Advice appreciated,
Thanks,
Micky Fokken

I would bet its a power issue. When the printer fuser section comes on its pulling about 1000 watts (10A) and may cause the CPU to reset. Try turning the printer off and then sending it a print job. Or find an outlet on another circuit to plug the printer into.

I told it to wait until the job was completely spooled before starting the print job.

It stopped rebooting for a couple days, but then it started again last night.

When you say it's a power issue, do you think we should swap out power supplies?

No, I'm saying that the current pull from the printer (when the fuser turns on) is reducing the voltage available to the computer, causing a reset. It may not seem so by looking at it. You could plug a lamp (100Watts or so) into the same outlet as the computer and see if it dims.
But the surest test is to put the printer on a separate circuit. That might be hard to determine depending on your access the the breaker panel. But worth a try.

It a big shame to say that the LJ4 has lots of problems [cry] In fact it´s one of the best and most stable laserjet printer HP has ever made. Compare it to the ones made today and you will quickly see which printers has the most problems. Fact is ... The more simple, the more reliable ! [wink]
