i have installed a new ide harddirve in a kayak u800. the old drive failed was scsi. The problem is i can't get the new harddrive to boot. The system keep restarting. Is there a way to configure the system that it see the ide drive and not the scsi. Is this a bios issue? The new drive has an os installed on it.

If the old HD is disconnected, the new one is jumpered as Master(or CS -> cable select) and it's connected to the IDE 1 channel, then it should become the boot drive without making any changes in BIOS.

However, you may have to reformat it and reinstall the O/S.

i think you maybe right. Bios, see's the new hard drive, but it will not but. I restore of the drive may be the answer. Thanks.

SCSI controller my need to be deselected as boot device. Some did , some didn't, can't remember on HP supplied SCSIs.

What OS? If Win XP, you can't easily swap hard drives from system to system.
