Does anyone know if there is a version of jetadmin that will run on linux. I would like to configure a linux box for network printing. The HPjet printer is an hp2100TN with a jet direct card. The linux machine is wired into the same network via ethernet.

With the absense of a config utility such a jetadmin would it be wise to set up remote printing through a SCO unix box I have on the same network.

What would be the right way to do this. (The right way I guess being subjective)

If I'm not mistaking, with the newer JetDirect cards and servers, you can HTTP right into the print server. They have web servers built right in. Don't need anything else. But I could be wrong. It seems to me that if you can HTTP in from a Win32 box, you should be able to do it from any box.

I always thought you could telnet into them directly and configure your ip stuff then.
out of the box, older jet direct came with (i cant remember) a 192.168.x.x address and the new ones come with bootp/dhcp enabled.
just plug it in, print out the config page and telnet to it.
no need for jetadmin.
