I have a customer who received a HP Pavilion 763.uk in December and has never been able to record to cd/dvd. We have done a plethora of troubleshooting. Please see fault finding as follows:

· Cds will not burn correctly, they keep stopping as soon as 'record now' gets to the 'writing' part
· Tried different brands of cds
· Performed general modem fault finding
· Build support - performed full rebuild
· Different cds again
· Tried just burning data
· Tried just burning audio
· Tried all 3x options in record now (data, music, exact)
· Uninstalled and re-installed 'e:\' and 'f:\'
· Using Record Now v4.1
· Dma enabled
· Sent to repairs to replace 'DVD/CD-RW (F:)'
· Engineer replaced the drive
· Engineer installed an updated version of Record Now
· Customer called because he has exactly the same error
· Removed and reinstalled drive
· Checked if I could get anywhere using powertools such as 'tweakui', no joy
· Went into my computer and looked at the properties for the DVD/CD-RW (F:)
· Went to the recording tab and enabled cd recording on this drive
· Tried to make an exact copy of the cd
· As per usual it started recording and got to about 3% or 4% and said "there is an error writing to the disk, please insert a new disk
· Emailed repairs to check that the correct drive
was replaced

Ok I have rebuilt the OS, replaced the drive, replaced the software.

Any Ideas will be greatly appreciated,

Jeff Anderson

Hi

Is this writer on its own IDE port or is it sharing with another device. I had a problem with my CD Writer when I had it set on slave to a CD ROM. I made the CD Writer the master and the CD ROM the slave and all worked perfectly.

Hope this helps

Great idea,

I'll pull one of our machines apart tomorrow to have a look how they're configured and then call the customer

I'll post some feedback tomorrow

Regards,

Jeff

Go to the Properties of the burner and check and see if you can lower the speed.

I found this problem many times and it was always the speed of the burner set to high. If you can set the speed keep dropping it till you get no more errors.

Good Luck

Thanks for the idea with record speed 'spool', cannot remember if I had the customer reduce that or not :)
