Hey people I just finally updated my ancient printer from 1998 and I am having a problem installing this new one.
I just bought a HP Deskjet F380 printer and the installation goes fine until the directions tell me to plug in the usb cord to the printer and into the computer I do this and in the step it tells me it can not install the printer files. But the installation continues. Now in my computer I now see that it has a section for Scanners and Camera's and it says HP Deskjet F300 Image Scanner. And if I right click on manage for my computer and look at the device manager I see these new entries:
1. IEEE 1284.4 compatible printers and if I open that up it lists these Deskjet F300 (DOT4Print) and Deskjet F300 (dot4prt)
2. IEEE 1284.4 devices and if I open that up I see this: Deskjet F300 series (Dot4)

If I open up USB Controllers I see these new entries:
1. Deskjet F300 series (Dot4USB)
2. USB COmposite Device
3. USB Printing Support

But everytime I restart my computer it goes to the new hardware wizard and gives me this message Can't install this hardware. There was a problem installing HP Deskjet F300 series. An error occured during the installation of the device. The specified port is unknown.

So what is my problem and how can it be fixed?

PS I have also followed the directions from this link as well and the problem is still not corrected:
