Had a 5.0.5 system (PIII) with a Seagate DAT drive in. Data was transferred to a 3.2.4 system (486), again with a Seagate DAT drive, via the tape. Until recently all was well. Then the 5.0.5 DAT tape had to be changed and was replaced by an HP C1539-00260. Since then the Seagate in the 3.2.4 machine will not read the tapes from the HP drive. Have tried replacing the drive in the 3.2.4 machine with an HP drive and it makes no difference. The 3.2.4 machine with the HP drive will read tapes created on itself and if the original Seagate drive is put back into the 3.2.4 machine it will read tapes written on a third machine running 5.0.5 with a Seagate drive. Finally, the HP drive from the 3.2.4 machine works OK in a totally different machine running 5.0.4, reading all the tapes that couldn't be read when the drive was in the 3.2.4 machine.

If you can understand all of this and have any suggestions I would be very grateful. SCO TAs do not offer any real help.

Happy new year to everybody on the forum.

Regards

Roy Thomas
