My Colorlaser jet 4500DN, is giving me a drum life out error. I replaced the drum kit with a new one and I'm still getting the error. I cleaned it out and I'm still getting the same error. Anyone seen this before?

The drum count is read by a chip thats located on the drum itself, it's not something the printer keeps track of, so there is no "reset" you can do for the drum.

This new drum you put in, is it a genuine HP? I'd start by checking the contacts on the drum itself, and inside the printer to make sure they aren't dirty, and it's just not reading it correctly.

If it's not an HP drum, there is a chance that whoever rebuild/remanufactured the drum failed to change the chip, or the chip is just bad.

If it is genuine HP, did it come from a sealed box or was the box opened? And was the black bag it was in sealed?

Have you tried the new drum in another 4500, or 4550? They both use the same drums, so it's an easy test.

If the new drum doesn't work in another printer, call where you bought it from and get a replacement as it's defective.

Thanks , T, the new kit is HP and was brand new I don't have another have another 4500 here. I may just send it back and see if I can get another on.

You know what T, you were right the sensor is having connection problems. If I hold the door close at the where the sensor is it will print, even though the error won't go away.
