I have a customer with a HP Color laserjet 4600 which has magneta toner on the back side of prints intermittently. It usually appears as a band or bands of magneta toner. They have replaced the magneta toner and we replaced the HVPS and cleaned the contacts. The firmware has also been updated. It still shows up intermitently. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, here is one thing to check. Print a configuration page and down on the lower left of the page, there are Tray Settings. Is Tray 1 Type & Size set to "ANY"?

If the problem is what I think it is, then there is a known issue with HP and this product. I've seen it where the eniter page has a magenta haze over it, like a mangenta background.

HP found that in earlier 4600's that if the tray 1 size and type are set to any, the problem occurs. The fix is to replace the formatter board, and the magenta toner, at the same time. The replacement formatter is suppose to resolve this issue, so you can keep the tray 1 size and type to any. HP has also advised that if you have a printer with the faulty formatter, and you set either the size or type to something other than any the problem does not appear.
