HP CLJ 3600N doesn't interpret escapecodes 1

Using SCO Unix openserver 5.0.5 I'd like to print files with escape-codes embedded (PCL-commands) to a HP CLJ 3600N network printer.
This printer does allready print standard ascii-textfiles, but refuses to act on PCL-commands. The printer is set up using the HP network printer manager.
Remote networkprinting (I don't think I need this but what ever)is installed as is local networkprinting. I use xtod to make certain we have a CR/LF.
I've also tried to fix this with netcat (using thread58-1355524), but still it won't work. Anyone?

I believe the LJ3600 is among a growing list of "Host Based" printers. The fact that you got it to print by sending plain ASCII is interesting. It may also be among a list of PCL6 printers which don't understand PCL5 codes.

A google search for "LJ 3600" and PCL will bring you to others equally frustrated. For instance:
