Here is the problem:

I have recently installed an HP CD-Writer+ 8100 CD burner. I have installed it on my Windows 2000 Professional computer. My burner installed just fine. Life was good. I was able to listen to music on it. Life was fine!

Life was fine until I went and changed the network drive letter from n: to e: in the Disk Management option. I changed the drive letter and now it will not play any sound. The drive will recognize CD's and will open the CD's just fine. But, it will not play any sound. (It used to!)

I have removed the burner and I have reinstalled it. It installed properly to the e: drive, but it will not play sound anymore.

Any ideas? I have the most recent driver...

In working with the cables on the drive, did the audio cable from the drive to the sound card get plugged in? Can you plug a headset into the front of the CD drive and get music from an Audio CD? In Control Panel, MultiMedia, did the CD audio get muted?

Definitely make sure the audio cable is plugged in as Berton mentions. The next thing to try is to uninstall/reinstall the software that you're using to play the cd's. Perhaps the old drive letter is stuck in the registry for that app?

Furthermore, does it work if you change the drive letter back to N:? ~cdogg
