HP C1533A icon not displayed

I have a Proliant1500 running MS Win2000 PRO Server and the HP Tape drive (C1533A) is not displayed on "My computer". Adaptec SCSI Explorer finds the drive, it is displayed under "Device Manager" and I can use MS Backup Ver5 to backup data. I cannot, however re-format tapes, re-tension or control the drive as a stand-alone device. Can anyone help me, because I don't know where to start?
