I am obtaining poor performance from a HP9000 model N server attached to a HP Surestore E Disk Array 12H subsystem, with sybase.
After analyzing the problem, what I need to do is to distribute specific files (logfiles, tempdb, data files, audit files)over different disks in order to avoid disk contention.
Actually the disk system is configured as RAID-5 automatically, but in order to improve performance, what I need to do is to re-arrange the RAID structure in several RAID-10 arrays.
Can I configure it in a permanent way with the RAID I need to use in a heavy transaction processing environment?
Have you any idea to improve performance in such environment?

Thanks for your help

A HP AutoRaid is a self balencing machine. Meaning the data you access most, it places into RAID 1 for performance, and the data that you access the least, it puts into RAID 5. You really do not have any control over what it places where. However, my experience with HP AutoRaids has shown that when there is not enough 0/1 space, the performance goes out the door. You probably need to increase the 0/1 space. Check out this document for more details.

I would agree with crowe - you can significantly improve the performance for AutoRAID by adding disks. As the AutoRAID fills up (by us allocating filesystems on it) more and more of the data will be held in Raid 5 rather than 0/1. Add some more disk(s) and make sure that they are "included" in the array Mike
