Morning ladies and gentlemen...

I have a HP ProCurve AdvanceStack 800T switch. I'm trying to configure the switch but I don't know its IP address. The config was cleared. I installed the switch to the network and it should be getting an IP. I plugged my laptop to it and am getting and IP. How can I configure this bad boy without having the console cable? I tried going into my DHCP server to check the IP with no success. Any ideas? Thanks

MC

Most switches are not enabled as DHCP clients, although some have the ability to do BOOTP (which is a similar older protocol however not exactly the same...do you have a BOOTP server?). If the switch's default allows for BOOTP and you have access to a BOOTP server, then there is a chance it could work.
If not, I would suggest you purchase a console cable for the switch, and start from scratch.
If the Advancestack 800T is like the Procurve switches, then a DB9 Null modem cable for console access is needed.
(very common cable). I am investigating if this is the case.
