On rare and unpredictable occasions, the printer will produce random binary garbage, one or two lines per page. It will apparently keep doing this until an internal buffer is emptied. The buffer appears to be in the printer. Powering the printer off, or rebooting the computer, have no effect. It keeps churning out nonsense until it decides that it is finished.

Going to the control panel, clearing the print queue has no effect, because the queue is spooled in the printer, not in the computer.

I need a way to clear the printer's internal buffer.

I am running Windows 98. Usually the file is being sent out by Corel Word Perfect 8.

I know it is of no help to you but I have an almost identical printer, the HP895CXI, running under windows XP pro that has the exact same problem.
Once spewing out this one or two line garbage nothing helps, reboot, delete queue etc etc etc.
I have found that I must NOT stop the printer once it is on it's way with a job otherwise I get your/my problem.
It is not helped by an apparent lack of a signed HP driver.
The driver used is generic in XP.
It is a problem I have just got used to living with!!
Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.
