Hi all,

Have recently bought a nearly new 8550n printer and I am trying to print a newsletter that is very graphical. The printer can handle 6ppm in colour but in an hour and a half it only printed 2, 38 page newsletter.
The printer has over 300mb of memory but it's obvious that there is some configuration problems.

Can anyone shed any light?

Cheers
Rob.

Hi,

I suggest you use the PCL driver instead of the PS driver.
It works fine in our W2K network and the PCL driver is a few times faster then the PS one.

Your 2*38 pages in 90 minutes equates to just under 1.2 pages per minute (compared to 6 ppm rated speed); this might be all you CAN achieve with complex graphics.

There may be nothing you can do; rated speeds for printers quote the maximum speed, which is usually only attainable in Simplex mode (Duplex normally halves the speed), and with very simple data (e.g. text with a single font).

As an example, a local LaserJet 4Si prints close to rated speed (16 faces per minute) with simple text, but slows dramatically to 1 or 2 faces per minute if it is sent large raster graphics images.

there is a difference between engine speed and processing speed...complex graphics take a while to process.
