I've got the blinking light problem for the cartridge of my HP 842C. I tried cleaning the cartridge per HP FAQs and it is still having the problem. The printer ate a piece of paper and then went into this problem. It is only 6 months old and was not used alot. It sounds like something has gone south in the hardware - but anyone with ideas???

I had a similar problem with my 822C. Just after I replaced the cartridge. Turns out it was the wrong cartridge. I don't know how you could tell, but the printer could. Everything about it was identical, including the printhead wiring. If by chance you are refilling, you may need to replace the whole cartridge. The electronics do go bad after awhile. Also, you might try cleaning the prnthead connections (all the electrodes) with some Isopropyl Alcohol, as well as the face plate that the print heads match against on the cartridge. If all else fails the expensive solution is to buy a new hp brand cartridge (if you didn't already). Next step would to be call HP.

I was printing from my HP 970cse and it stopped operating in the middle of a print job. I removed the paper from the printer, so there is no jam but the carriage is locked. Both the yellow and green lites are blinking but it will not feed a sheet of paper or the ink cartriges won't move.
Is it time for a new printer?
