Greetings Mortals.

I plugged my old (perfectly functioning), HP 812c into my new, Windows P4 desktop, running WinXP. The XP recognized the new hardware via the USB and came up with the self loading wizard. At the end of the process, it says 'error, likely will not work', which is a very accurate statement.

I reload as manually as I can try and still no success. I go to HP's web site to get another driver, but they relate that the driver is built-in to XP and it is therefore not available on their site.

My only hunch is that maybe somehow the USB cable is bad?

Any suggestions on this one greatly appreciated.

question. . .can you try the 812 with the parallel port? see if you can get the new PC to work witht he printer through an alternate port first (LPT1) and that will tell you if it's a USB problem.
