I have recently been having a problem with our HP 8000. When a specific person sends a job to the printer, sometimes it will just get stuck in the queue. It will say printing or processing or something like that. I will try to manually delete the job and then it sill say deleting-printing but does nothing. I usually have to turn off the spooler, go into the spool folder to delete the job manually, and turn the spooler back on. I was wondering if someone has ever had a similar problem with an HP 8000 or similar printer? I believe it only happens when this one person from my office trys to print, and it doesn't happen everytime. Is it a firmware issue? if so, how do I update the firmware? I have tried using telnet to connect to the printer, but i dont see a command to update the firmware. I would appreciate some help. Thank you.

The LJ8000 series uses the EIO Network card, probably a 600N, 610N, 615N, or 620N. These all have internal Web Servers, and if you open up your favorite web browser, type the IP address of the printer, you will get all kinds of lovely information.

I am not entirely certain if the firmware for this printer can be updated from the embeded web server. But if you can't from there, go to HP's web site and do a search for "Web Jet Admin" which is software that you can use to manage your printers. In the WJA software, you can do firmware updates for both the printer and JetDirect card.

A couple of missing pieces of information on this one. Are they printing to a shared resource on a server, or directly to the printer?

If they are printing to a shared resource on the server, try turning OFF print spooling on the client's PC (Select "print directly to printer"). It will still spool on the server, but it won't spool twice (once on the user's PC, and again on the server).
