Hi,
Does anyone have any experience using a HP 7200e writer and Windows XP? I seem to have nothing but problems. If I install it using the XP driver provided by HP, it will install, and then I can reboot and install HP Record Now. It will work fine until I reboot the computer. Once I reboot it will hang at a blank screen after it comes up with the initial loading screen. After about 10 or 15 minutes, it will blue screen. The only way I can use it from that point is to unplug it, reboot, restore to the point before I installed it, reinstall it and then it will work fine until I have to reboot the computer again. If anyone has any experience, please let me know what you can do to fix it. I can't tell if it is XP or if it's the Toshiba Laptop, because I have no other XP computer to test it out on.

Thanks,
David

There is a fix out there that I ran across which MIGHT help these issues. Do a driver search, and download the file,

WinXP_LPT_Driver

The description says this is a Windows XP driver for external Parallel Port HP CD Writer. Maybe it will help.

Also,

Make sure your SCM EPAT driver (SCSI Wannabe) is configured for a i/o address of 378. Try reconfig LPT1 as LPT2. Make sure you have EPP mode selected.

I am having trouble in Win 2000 pro with this drive. The drive will only read, not write. Also eventually it will cause a conflict error with an external floppy.

Also I loaded a DOS driver, (SCM) that allows this driver to run from a DOS boot disk for disaster recovery. The driver will allow reading, but not writing through any programs, including Norton Ghost. Anyone have any experience using this drive through DOS?

Email me if you need the above driver.
