Hi All

I've got an HP 7150 printer. I can't get it to work with a HP 58 cart in the right cart bay - I've been through two, and the printer won't play along with either (it works fine with just the left cart bay filled with a 57 in it).

I've tried turning off and on (!), asking the software to clean the carts, but it won't as the printer does not like the 58 cart.

Any clues on how I can get the printer to play along (some form of resetting or other tip?)?

I hope you can help, many thanks, Jc.

There is a separate forum for HP printers, don't be intimidated that it's in the "Server Rack"

These folks know HP printers. My question: Is the cartridge an HP-brand or a refill?

Three things come to mind...

one:

the contacts of the cartridge are corroded (non conductive)... clean the contacts by scraping them lightly with a screwdriver or use a No.2 pencil eraser...

two:

some of the pins that make the contact to the cartridge are bend or damaged or possibly corroded aswell... here you would gently rebent them or per above scrape off the corrosion...

three:

the cartridge itself is damaged (the chip on it)... in this case you should try another just to see if it is the cartridge or not...

Another thing comes to mind...My Konica Minolta printers (I have two, hate them both) actually WRITE data to the cartridge, so I cannot remove the partially-full cartridge from one and use it in the other. It will not work. I confirmed this with K/M support (quite good support really, they need it) but they would not solve the issue. They will send me a new (refurbished) printer but not a new toner cartridge!!!
