HP 5550DTN issues w/print processor

Hi,

Recently we've had issues on one of our printservers with HP 5550 drivers. HP sent us newer user-mode drivers with which the issue was resolved. (That issue was about spoolsv using >1Gb memory and hanging the server).

Now, we have another HP5550 which is causing some unexpected behavior. Last week, the printerqueue suddenly went 'offline' and we couldn't get it started on the printserver (which is Windows 2000 btw) again. After some time, however, the printerqueue came back online all of a sudden and there was no issue since.

Now, this morning the spoolsv process hung again after using 900 Mb of memory. I'm not sure if this is related to the previous problems we've had, but I started looking at that HP5550DTN printer again and noticed that the one difference I could find with our other printservers (where this issue is not occuring) is that the print processor for the faulty HP5550 is 'winprint' -> 'raw' and for the non-conflicting printserver it's set to "HPZ2MPQ" (not quite, but it looks like it).

My questions:

- What difference does a different print processor make?
- Anyone has (had) similar problems?
- If so, how did you solve hanging printers/spoolsv's?

Do you have the latest servicepack for Windows 2000 installed?

Yeah, we're using SP4 with all latest security patches ... we only use mode-3 drivers (Win certified) and replaced the HP5550 driver with usermode drivers because of past issues.
