HP 4L does not feed paper

Hello. My fifteen year old HP 4L laserjet has had a bad week. First came the loud groaning noise which I traced to a bad motor drive gear and replaced it. Now the paper will not manually feed. All that happens is a soft clicking of a solenoid somewhere but the paper orange light does not go out nor does anything else happen with the printer. Any suggestions? Thanks.
