I am attempting to convert an HP 4600n Color Laser to a HP 4600dn. (Adding the duplex option). Hewlett Packard says there is no option to purchase. Does anyone know what service parts can be purcahsed to make this happen?
This duplexer is unlike previous duplex units that were installable optional assemblies. The 4600 duplexer is something added to the delivery area of the printer at the factory. There is no upgrade available.
Yes I realize there is no "offical" duplexing package available. But by purchasing certain service parts it should be possible to convert the printer.
Officially those part are NOT sold separately, as the duplexer control is incorporated on the main board formatter, so it would also be very costly to exchange the formatter to add a duplexer to the printer. There`s absolutely no reasonable way you can optain the duplex function on a standard LJ 4600 or LJ 4600N.
Thanks for the info. That is basicaly what we discovered by doing a complete tear down of the two different printers. Being the only difference is in the board itself you would think HP would have designed it as a seperate module that could have been purchased seperatly.
As far as I know the mainboard of the 4600 DN is NOT sold at all to ppl. who has a standard 4600 as it requires return of the defective part. So basically it`s a sort of bad investment if a customer later wants to upgrade their printer to a duplex model. All in all I do think the re-seller should inform the the customer of this issue, before a customer buys a 4600.
