Our 4500 Color LaserJet has a problem in printing grey
areas on colored pages.

Grey areas look pink. Other colors, including black, are looking fine. Greyscale pages (without any color) are fine, too. But as soon as there is color on the page, grey seems to be mixed, not using the black cartridge.

The funny thing is the testpage is looking okay, WITH color and grey on one page, but as soon as I send such a page from an application, the grey looks pink again...

Is there a way to prevent the printer/driver/something from mixing the colors ?
The test page is working, where can I set my printer in also using this mode for other printouts ?

Thanks in advance,
Jens K.

make sure your drivers are up to date, download latest from HP site. Crazy as it sounds, I've solved many print quality problems just by replacing drivers. Also, the newer stuff tends to have alot of calibration and color correction tools. Give it a shot and see. Happy Holidays!

A few tips:

1) Try making a color calibration from the menu of the printer. Refer to your user manual for correct setting of the density.

2) Whenever you print a page where only black or grey colors appear, the printer only uses the black toner. Whenever the printouts consist of something in color regardless of size, the black colors are made by mixing the colors. This can not be prevented directly.
