It was not difficult to print to either tray 1 or tray 2 when printing from MS 2003 SBS. Now, trying to print to tray 2 from MS 2008 std server is an issue. I use tray 3 for all standard print jobs but I need tray 2 for invoices. The print device is attached to an HP 500X print server on port2. I use HP PCL 5 to print to tray3 and was using HP PS to print to tray2(SBS 2003 server). Could someone advise me how I can get tray 1 and tray 2 to print correctly. No issues printing to tray3.
Thanks in advance

hi,
I'ld follow this steps:

Go in Printer and open Server Properties in File menu

1) Add PCL Driver for your HP 4250
2) Add PS Driver for your HP 4250
3) Add a PORT standard Tcpip with printer server ipaddress
ans 9101 as port number (port2) or use PrinterServer Driver
4) Add printer wizard and choose PCL driver, above port
and name this printer HP4250PCL, share it with this name
5) Add printer wizard and choose PS driver, above port
and name this printer HP4250PS, share it with this name
6) set default tray for each printer.

bye

Hi Vic,

Thanks for the response. Your response is very similar to the way we did that multiple tray configs under MS server 2003. I am having a bit of an issue in understanding step #3

Thanks

hi,
it's just a trick to use the second parallel port in a printer server, if you have not specific driver:

Create new port | Standard Tcpip
Enter ip address of printer server
Custom | Settings
substitute 9100 by 9101

(9102 for 3rd port)

While that is a work-around, it's not the solution.

When you set up the printer on 2008, did you go into the settings *on the server* and define the paper trays there? Because even if you select a different tray on the workstation, if the server is wrong, it won't work properly.

Just my 2¢

Using the PCL font there was no ability to specify a default tray so I port all print jobs to tray#3. There is the ability to specify tray info as well as form info when using the PS driver.

Here is where I believe I went wrong. I set up the printer on an HP 500x print server (port 1)and shared it out as HENRY what I beleive I should have done is set it up as HENRY_PCL and then set up tray #2 as HENRY_PS. Which by my reasoning would print to tray #2.

If my thought process is correct? Would it be best to uninstall HENRY and proceed with a new install tagging each share with the proper driver?

Thanks very much

Issue was successfully resolved thanks for the guidance.
