Hello.

I have a home worker, who uses a HP 4215 All-in-One. Has been working fine on a HP nx5000 running XP SP2 with all updates, as of today. She now gets a popup message saying Found New Hardware HP 4200. It then goes on to say 'An error occurred during the installation of the device. The system cannot find the file specified'.
I have uninstalled, and re-installed using CD, and downloaded from website. All appear to be working OK, until the last 4% when this error pops up. I have ran RegClean, and ensured that all the USB files are in the correct folders (INF or Drivers). The printer still prints OK, but this error pops up every few seconds - Has anyone else come across this at all?

Thanks in advance,

Darren.

Do you turn the printer/computer off at all?
When XP starts up, or a printer is turned on, XP will do this. Leave it all on. If using a UPS quit doing it. It will cycle power and may cause this trouble.

The printer/laptop will be powered off at some point of the day, as all equipment should be. Bit confused by this, as XP or any computer should not do this. I understand the concept of how the 'Found New Hardware' process works - However, this is happening as if it cannot complete the install to a device that has been installed for about 6 months. Believe it is to do with USB drivers, but unsure how to resolve. I will try re-applying XP SP2 to see if this helps.

Just to update this in case anyone else has this problem.
Re-applied XP SP2 and the printer now functions without continually believing it is new hardware and erroring out!

Must have re-installed the updates for USB *.inf & *.sys files.

Thanks.
