Back in Oct 2004 I mentioned in thread697-934563 that I had a 4200 fuser with a cracked clip or latch, one of 2 blue plastic pieces that hold the fuser in place. I just came across another of my printers also with a broken clip. Is this just coincidence or am I right in saying that these blue clips are too weak for the job?
I had said before, believe it or not, you cannot buy that silly little clip since it is not available as a separate part. (I really tied to talk them into it, though.) Well, now I have 2 broken clips, so I thought I'd take the two fusers and make one good one. Wrong. Both of them had broken right clips. I may just try to see if a fuser can work with 2 left clips...
Any ideas on how to get HP to sell those dinky clips as separate replacement parts? It's a shame to toss out a perfectly fine fuser just because of a little piece of plastic! I'm beginning to think I'll need a 10-pack of them.
Random musings: I started wondering why the right clips are breaking and noticed that the big gears are on the right side, indicating that the clip on that side is getting more stress and eventually failing.

(Reminds me of the time my left turn signals went bonkers on a used car I'd bought. The repairman said the springs came in pairs, but he only replaced the broken ones, so he had lots of right-turn springs left over. I explained that often drivers - ours here in USA - don't use their signals for right turns since they're lazy. So the left springs got used more and wore out quicker. The human factor.)
