HP Colour Laserjet 3500.

Not printing any (readable) black ink.

Have changed toner, fuser kit, image transfer kit.

Run a PQ troubleshoot all pages except black.

HP are unable to help because printer is out of warrantee, however they did run through a test, we changed the Magenta cartridge to the black slot and vice versa and then run another PQ troubleshoot.

The results were black printed fine but this time no Magenta, she said it would be the black cartridge slot that has failed and an engineer would need to be sent out.

Received a quote for HP to come out and have a look and it’s almost as much as a new printer!

Has anyone had similar experience or know what the failed part will be?

Thanks,

Leigh

The issue of the "black color plane only missing" most often occurs after a service event in which the Image Drive Assembly was removed (or other service event that focused on right side of printer), but the black developer clutch connector failed to be plugged back in.

Since you have confirmed that the issue is present at the black toner slot only you can test the following :

1. Press (checkmark) to enter the MENUS.
2. Press (down arrow) to highlight DIAGNOSTICS.
3. Press (checkmark) to select DIAGNOSTICS.
4. Press (down arrow) to highlight COMPONENT TESTS.
5. Press (checkmark) to select COMPONENT TESTS.
6. Press (down arrow) to highlight BLACK DEVELOPER DRIVE.
7. Press (checkmark) to execute test.

This test drives the drum motor and black print cartridge drive clutch for 10 seconds which rotates the ITB belt, CMYK print cartridge OPC drums, and black developer. By running the test you will be able to verify if the Black development clutch is malfunctioning or defective requiring service by a CE.

Thanks I will give this ago.

Actually the black is now printing! but the print quality appears to be very poor with all colours.

However I will try what you have suggested.

Thanks!
