as the subject line reads, if i print something as simple as a text document, the text is "ghost printed" a second [and third time].

additionally, extraneous toner is smeared on the page.

here is an example - only one line of text, "Start Text End" exists in the single-page document (i've scanned the printed page in, then "boxed" the real text in red) ... notice that the text, "Start Text End" is repeated a second time (ghost print) and take note of the smeared toner (the toner is fused to the paper).

any thoughts what the problem is?

HP LaserJet 3015, about 2 years old, orig toner cartridge.

Try and meassure the distance between the repetitive defects and compare it to below defects ruler :

Print Cartridge at 30.8mm (1.21 inches) and 37.7mm (1.48 inches) and 76.3mm (3.0 inches)
Fuser (fixing assembly) 41mm (1.61 inches) and 56.5mm (2.22 inches)
Transfer roller 46.3mm (1.82 inches)
Paper pick-up assy 55.2mm (2.17 inches)

Good luck [wink]

The fact that it is smearing then fusing the toner indicates to me that the cartridge (OPC drum) and transfer roller need to be changed.

But good job hpwizzard. You are da man.
