HP-2600n cartridge door won't close-obstructed by open cartridge

I just replaced the ETB on my HP2600n. Now the cartridge door will not close. It keeps bumping up against the bottom most cartridge(open with flap extended). It's my guess that this has something to do with the hinge cam on the left hand side. I'm pretty sure I installed the ETB correctly. I followed instructions from LaserPros and was especially careful in aligning the ETB "feet" into their holes with their cams and screws. The cams are designed to fit only one way. As you close the ETB, the bottom most cartridge (magenta) opens first, then there is a click and the other three cartridge flaps open. The ETB closes fine with no cartridges installed. I tried downloading a service manual from but it seems the file is corrupted. Can someone give me some insight?

I'm pretty sure I installed the ETB correctly.

I'd check again. The belts are kind of a pain to change on the 2600's. Something is not lined up right.

Thanks for writing. I agree with you that something is out of alignment. The most likely spot is the ETB alignment of the feet in their holes. Once the ETB is placed, however, the hole and the cam are constructed to only fit in one way. The left cam has a "leg" that engages a plastic part that looks like a big plastic bobby pin. This is where I think the problem is but I can't tell from the tiny images in the HP service manual how (or with what) these parts work together. As you close the door, the cam "leg" rides on top of this plastic piece and opens the lowest cartridge. There's a loud click and the rest of the cartridges open. Hope I can save this baby.

Try looking on partsurfer.hp.com instead.... they have pretty good exploded views of how things go together.

Eureka! The site you mentioned was very helpful. After checking the diagrams, I disassembled the ETB and then reassembled it. Long story short: you were right about the alignment problem. The right cam was never shown on the ETB installation instructions and while the cam can only fit one way, it is part of a gear system that I believe retracts the cartridges. So the right cam was not aligned into the gear system properly. The left cam, the object of two pictures, is pretty straight forward. Here is a situation where one picture is worth 10,000 words. Thanks for hanging with me on this problem.

No problem. I use HP's partsurfer a LOT.

It's not only good for finding what part you need, but also good for exactly what your situation was. :)

(a.k.a. me saying "Crap! How did that go in there again?" [rofl])
