We have a 2550n that is now out of warranty. We purchased a Quill brand cartridge to replace our K (black). When installing it made nasty grinding noises. We tried several attempt assuming we didn't install right. We then installed an HP brand which installed fine. But now we are not getting color to print on the left side. After investigating, it is before the fuser, color is not going onto the paper. I have tried 65 lb. and 20 lb. with the same results. I am wondering if I should order a new imaging drum but don't want to spend that money if it won't fix it. Our closest certified repair shop is more then 1 hour away. I am sure it needs adjustment but don't know where. We have ran the clean cycle and calibration cycle several times with no improvement. Any ideas?

We had 2 HP Laserjet 2550N printers. One is still going but the other has died.
THe dead one would not sync correctly & the colours came out wrong. In the end it stopped printing all together & we were unable to get the toner cartridges out, because they didn't sync to thier correct position. I spoke to our printer repair specialist & he said that this is a known problem & is not normally repairable, but he suggested that I do a firmware upgrade. I tried this & the printer started working again for a month or so, but died in the end. You could try the firmware update option though it may help. I did the firmware upgrade on the other machine & it is still going strong.
Have a look here for the instructions:
