HP 2200 and Win 2K Spooling Problems...

Hi,

Have an issue with a Windows 2000 workstation and spooling problems.

If a user doesn't log in, they can't print from a networked machine. Once the user logs in they will get a message like:

Spool Directory Selection

Insufficient diskspace in the current directory to spool the print file. Please select another directory

<list of folder like WINNT, Docs and Settings, Programs Files, etc>

If I select a directory and hit "OK", nothing happens; it just goes right back to the message listed above. If I hit "Skip", then the job will proceed.

I've already checked HP's sites and forums, and have seen one similar instance where it was suggested that I increase my pagefile size. I did to 1024MB and it still does this. I hardly think that a graphic-less Excel spreadsheet can take up that much memory.

Anyone with similar problems? Fixes?

Thanks for your help. J.R. Juiliano

Is the printer on a Win2k Server or using AD? 'A world without donuts is like a donut without a hole.......wait that would mean more donut! I'm a Genius' Homer Simpson

Windows 2000 Pro, but is a client on an active directory domain. There was check box to add this to the Active Directory listings and it was checked. Everything else is pretty much default, shared and the "everyone" group replaced with "Authenticated Users".

I have ZERO problems with my other HP printers (LaserJets 4,5,1100 and 1000). It's just this particular InkJet!

It's just when this shared printer gets a job from another workstation that it does this. When printing it locally the error message doesn't come up.

Thanks for any help! J.R. Juiliano

Have you installed SP3??

I have had a problem like this and have heard of a few others.......

Check out this article ID on MS Knowledge base->q328020

I ran the patch and all seems ok

Let me know how you get on

Hi,

Yup, SP3 is installed as are the latest hotfixes (MS didn't release any today, did they yet? :) )

This happened before and after SP3. For some reason it says there is not enough space in the spool file.

I tried this solution out and it didn't work for me: (sorry if it wraps).

I'm still looking at it. Luckily only two people use this printer, and one of them is only here twice a week. Everything is fine after you hit "skip" but it's still bothering me!

I know it's simple and probably the first thing you did :), but did you try uninstalling the printer, deleting the driver files manually, and then reinstalling the printer? Sounds like the print spool has been corrupted or become misdirected. Jeff Warmuth

I'm pretty sure I did that at least once. I'll do it again for sake of argument. I'm also going to uninstall any HP software and try it with bare-bones Win2k drivers and see if that helps.

And another thing occurred to me. I have a old Visioneer flatbed scanner that is daisy chained through the parallel port and needs to be ON in order for the printer to work. I'm wondering if there is an issue there as well.

Anyway, I will post here with the results and let you know. J.R. Juiliano
