I am having an issue sending pure text to this printer. The program that i am using does not use any drivers but send the data directly to the print spooler the issue is that the printer doesn't understand the plain text.
I was wondering if i can set this printer up with a generic driver and use the printer command option. Does anyone know?
Thank you,

I think that the PSC 1310 series printers were the early versions of what are now commonly called 'host-based' printers, where all the formatting is done on the host PC, which just sends an encapsulated, compressed, page image to the printer.

These printers understand a Page Description Language known as LIDIL (Lightweight Imaging Device Interface Language); this is proprietary to HP, and I don't think that any details are published.

So they wont understand plain text; you need to process the text via an appropriate LIDIL driver.

Later 'host-based' printers use a similar language known as JetReady.
