HP 1220c Default Settings Over Network

I have the HP 1220c set up over an NT netowrk. I want to set the default settings so that the print comes out in grayscale. How do I set this default setting.

Also is itpossible to print without the colour cartridge installed? When I try, the cartridge light flashes and wont print until I put in a colour cartridge.

On the workstation you are printing from, go do "Properties" of the printer (Start, Settings, Printers). If you change the settings for the printer, all applications will use those settings as default settings.
