I have been trying to get this printer to work reliably with W2K for several months now. The HP driver reports a lost connection with the printer. I have to cycle power on the printer in order to restore the connection. I have spent hours on the phone with HP support and have replaced the printer, all to no avail. I am using W2K professional SP1, parallel port. I am using an EPOX 8KTA2 motherboard. I have tried ECP and EPP setting for the LPT port. I have the latest driver from HP. I have deinstalled and reinstalled the printer multiple times. With HP support on the phone we went through the registery manually to remove all traces of any printer and reinstalled with the same result. Anybody have any suggestions? A Lexmark 3200 works with no trouble at all.
Thanks.

Have you had any luck resolving this problem? I've got a 1218 attached via a USB hub to a Dell Optiplex running XP that's a few years old and am having similar problems. Frequent disconnects, "assert prn..." errors.

I connected it directly to USB port on motherboard and it works fine. I have not tried it on a hub.
