Hey all together!

After searching for a long time for such a forum i suddenly found tektip!

i Hope you could help me! I'm searching for a description how to install an configure a SAN.

What do i really need?
Is it possible to configure it with simple Ethernet structur?
It will be just a test evironment. So i'm goimg to install everything with hardware which is just givin to me!

Maybe you can help me to become a part of the future.

Thank you

regards Julian

Are you looking to do an actual SAN, or something "San-Like"?

It all depends on what you want. You can have a iScsi san , then you can use the existing ethernet structure you already have. You can use software initiators, so no additional hardware will have to be installed.
If you switches support jumboframes, even better, that will increase performance.

However, if you want a fibre channel san , you will need
1.storage which allows attaching fibrechannel ( IBM,EMC,Netapp,....)
2. Fibrechannel switches ( brocade, mcdata,... )
3.HBA ( fibrechannel adapters on your servers )
4.fibre cables
-> much higher cost, but faster then iscsi
