Good-day guys,

I have a customer with a recently installed IP Office v2 (switching over from Norstar ICS Compact system) and they are still using their old T7316E/7208 phonesets.
One Combo card and 2-TCM 8 cards are installed in the control unit.
All the phones have line appearances for the company's 4 trunk lines.
The manager wants to be able to make an external call and not worry if at the same time another call is coming through the PBX and he unexpectedly answers the call when handset is lifted (his phone doesn't ring on Incoming calls - line buttons are programmed for Line Appearance only).

Please assist

You're welcome, but we're serious, ditch them and just use CA keys and it'll work exactly as specified :)

Not to open a can of worms - but ... when I get customers that absolutely demand LA buttons I buy a used 5410 and route all calls to it and then make bridged appearance buttons for everyone else. Works fine in small office but larger offices you'd absolutely want CAs.

We point blank refuse to add them (we don't tell them about them in the first place) and tell them "it doesn't work like the old system" if required.

We've never lost a customer or sale due to this, they all prefer it in the end :)

Remembering, if people frequently get "Waiting for line", enough to annoy them, that doesn't mean they need their keys back, it means they don't have enough lines in the first place :)

the simple (& Best) solution in this case is to not give him line appearances then his phone will not ring with calls that are not for him.

IP Office IS NOT a key system
if you try to use it as one it is like using a sports car to toe a caravan, Yes it will work but I will not give you the best experience of either.

also ip & digital handsets have "Hot" keypads so simply dial FIRST then pickup up the handset!

Amriddle01,

I completely agree with you...its just some people are not open to change and the manager keeps saying..."but the old system use to do this why can't this new one do the same thing!!!"....its a constant battle.

Because the old system was a key system, explain the new system is a PABX.
It can accept 240 channels of ISDN and 120 channels of SIP, would he expect a handset to need 360 buttons on it to allow use of those lines?
It has to be done differently with modern more capable systems, end of story.

He can buy himself a Panasonic if he really wants a key system, but it won't do much :)

I agree completely with everything you said. I was just providing an answer to the question that was asked.

"but the old system use to do this why can't this new one do the same thing!!!"
Answer :- Because the new system is sophisticated enough to route the call to the correct people without the users having to make that decision.

if they don't want the increased efficiency provided by a modern phone system then stick with the old one & don't bother upgrading.
