If the printer is directly connected to your machine go to the Printers and Faxes applet, and right-click the printer and select Cancel. If it is on a printer server machine on a Network it is faster to do that directly from the server machine rather than as a remote request.
Then turn off the printer for 15 seconds. Many have a control panel that will permit a reset operation as well. But you want to flush the physical printer memory after clearing the logical printer queue.
