How would you track re-curring tasks or projects on a monthly or weekly occurrance

I need to add a module to an existing app. Management would like to track re-curring tasks/projects.
Projects that are monthly weekly or bi-weekly. What would be the best kind of design?
Currently I track tasks and identify them....not sure how to build re-curring tasks and or projects.
