I have to downgrade from Windows2000 to NT4.0 on a
Compaq Proliant ML370. I have the latest Smartstart CD
and NT4.0 CD. There are many selections on the Smartstart
CD, but I don't know which are relevant and what order to
run them. Is the order below accurate? I need a rough
step-by-step on how to proceed. Thanks in advance.....

-Run System Erase Utility
-Update system Partition
-Run Sys config Utility
-Create Support Software
-Run Rompaq

It is not possible to downgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows NT. (You can only upgrade.) The only way to go backwards is to restore the Windows NT 4.0 from a backup tape or to re-install a fresh copy of Windows NT.

If you are going to re-install a fresh copy of Windows NT, do this:

Turn on the server with the Compaq Smart Start CD in the CD-rom. When the server boots, it should boot the Compaq Smart Start. (Choose System Erase)

After system erase is complete, reboot the server. When the server comes back on-line, it will ask you some basic information...like Language, time, etc.

Eventually, you will get to a screen that will ask you what type of install: The choices are Replicated installation, assisted installation, manuall installation. Choose Manual installation.

The server should now run System Configuration. In this, it will detect your hardware...PCI boards, memory, etc.

You will be asked to save the configuration. You will now be able to set up your RAID controllers (if any). After setting up the RAID controllers, the system will reboot and tell you to place the OS CD in.

Place the Windows NT CD-rom and reboot.....continue with the normal NT 4.0 installation from here.

After the NT is installed, you should upgrade to the latest service pack...before rebooting, however, install the latest Compaq SSD's.

Thanks Joseph....the upgrade went smoothly.

If you have other ML370 you could use replication disskete.
Create it on refference server and than with smart start
to go to integration server installation.
Even if you could downgrade to NT smart start allways
erase hdd. Sleew
