I have download the latest firmware from Nortel.

How do I take the .bin file, and put it on my BCM so that the BCM will upgrade the phones to that firmware?

Not sure why you would, just upgrade the system to 3.7 and it will cover all the latest.

Or just download the patch file for your release BCM that will install the proper firmware.

Thanks for the reply...I am new at this...

MarkHillman: I am on 3.7
biv343: I will look into the patch.

Here is my question, though...if you search NotelNetworks.com for 0603b76, it gets you the latest version of the firmware for the Nortel IP pones 2002 and 2004.

In the readme, it says this:
"The new firmware loads are available on Nortel’s support website via Nortel is offering 0602B76 and 0603B76 firmware download as a no charge update for its customers."

Why would they offer this download if there was no way to unzip the .bin file, and then use it in some way?

The file that is available for download there is for a CS1000 PBX running release 4.5.

This firmware is for phase 1 IP sets only. If your phones are phase 2, it won't make any difference.

If it applies to the BCM it will be released in a BCM patch form in the future.

I did this according to the directions of a someone else in another web site. He did it by another way, this is an alternative.

First, I downloaded the Zip file into my PC. Then, I did extract the file n.bin but renamed it as I2004.rom.

I enabled a FTP server in my PC.

Using a Telnet session to the BCM 3.7:
1.- Enter until you're on the Main Index
2.- Select 7 (Command Line)
3.- Once you're in the C: drive, change to the F: drive.
4.- There, look for the directory Nortel Networks-Unistim Terminal Proxy Server and there you will find that n.rom file. I used the "n" as a any-name value.
5.- Rename that file as a..."I2004_2.rom" or "I2400.rim".
5.- Open a FTP session to your FTP Client, then GET the file named "I2004.rom" and try to do the download firmware.

If you see that the telephone is downloading the firmware, but you still watching is the same version it had, wait until it finishes and look to the available features on the phone.

To me, it didn't help much. Hope you can find something useful in this.

So the firmware has to match the system?

If I buy phones with an incorrect firmware for my system, can I use the method descirbed by BlackCuervo to change that firmware to match my system?

How do I know what phase phone I have? I know it has something to do with the model number...
My I2002s are model NTDU76BB70
My I2004s are model NTEX00BA

Black Cuervo..are you saying you can start an FTP session from the phone? If so...How?

No. What I said is that you will start the FTP session from your BCM to your FTP server. Using a telnet session, go to F:> and look for NORTEL NETWORKS/UNISTIM Terminal Proxy Server. In this directory you will find a file named I2004.rom so, if this one has the firmware version 0603B65 but you've already downloaded the latest version to your FTP server: 0602B76 what you need to do is to rename both like this (As an example)

In the FTP server, after you unzipped the files, rename the *.bin file as I2004.rom

In the BCM's F:\Program Files\Nortel Networks\UNISTIM Terminal Proxy Server> prompt, search for the same file I2004.rom and rename it, or move it to another directory (TESTS1, or whatever...just create a new directory and move there the original I2004.rom file)

Then, from the same place (F:\Program Files\Nortel Networks\UNISTIM Terminal Proxy Server>) type FTP <ip address of your FTP server> and log on, then GET the file I2004.rom that you've renamed in your server and log off from your session.

Now, try to Force the Firmware Download for a telephone, an i2004 phase one and look what it does.

If you are watching that the firmware that this phone is downloading is the same that it had already, wait until it finishes and take a look to its menu. And, if I am not wrong, in your BCM, in IP Telephony, it will be registered as a 0602B76 version.

That's what I did, but honestly it didn't help a lot, ha ha ha!.

However, hope it can help!

Regards!
