We are building a giant dbase for a new web site. As there are many staff who will input data and we have FileMaker throughout the company, we plan to build the file in FileMaker but ultimately port to MySQL for online use.

We sell fonts, over 65,000 of them, many in up to 4 formats. We are getting hungup on how to build the file with ease of entry, customization of entry, and file structure. Where appropriate, we have settled on a checkbox input format to reduce user entry mistakes.

One of the fields is to contain 'Typical Usages'. This filed contains about 50 checkboxes. It seems with this checkbox method we can only select one 'Typical Usage' where we may require up to 5 to be selected.

How can we do this? Can we do this without duplicating the field five times to select multiple Usages?

With checkboxes you can select (check) as many as you want in Filemaker.

You may want to look at the Field Format in Layout mode to make sure that you have selected Check boxes and not Radio buttons.
