My company is starting to use Crystal Enterprise to schedule, run and email reports to our customers in Excel format. We have hundreds of reports per month and they have heretofore been run manually. Enterprise works great for this purpose, but we have one problem: some of the Excel files are quite large, 10MB+, and some of our customers cannot accept such large attachments.

When run manually, the folks in our customer data group would routinely use PKZip to zip up the files before sending. I'm wondering if there is an add-in/processing extension for Crystal Enterprise that would provide this capability. I've thought in terms of delivering the reports to unmanaged disk and having a batch job zip them up, but then we're left trying to figure which file gets emailed where. Our desire is to have the process completely automated and to get our customer data folks out of the business of being file pushers.

I'd appreciate any thoughts. If someone's already figured out how to do this or is aware of any third party tools, please fill me in.

I think that you'll need an external process for this, or write some custom CSP.
