Hello! I have an AVI file that doesn't play in Director - it shows an error message saying that the MPEG4 decompressor can't be found. However, the AVI file plays fine in Windows Media Player. My questions are:

Why does it play okay in Windows Media Player and not in the projector?

Is there a way to auto detect whether the user has the decompressor and then install it for them?

Is there a way to play the file in Windows Media Player from the projector, like you click a link in the projector and it opens up Windows Media Player?

Also, not really related to the AVI but, can you auto run the projector from a CD so the user doesn't have to click on the projector?

Thanks for your help!

Hey there, not sure why you are having a problem and maybe I should not be commenting.. but I am presently using several movie files that were compressed using mpeg4 and I get no error message when importing or linking them to Director. I am using version 8.5 of Director, if you are using an earlier version, check to see if it supports that type of compression.

Also, to create a self executing cd.. simply create a .inf file in text pad and put the following code in it...[autorun]
OPEN="nameOfYourProjectorHere.exe"

Hope that helps a little bit.

Agree with autorun.inf

Mpeg4 files play if you get MD to detect quicktime6 and force users to install if not present. Mpeg4 files then will play from all versions of MD 7.0+.
