Sorry - what means 'mapped a few drives off my nt server...'?
Are chinese/ japanese characters valid in NT-Files?
NTFS Filesystem?

I made the experience that sometimes one tool failes, while another is able to handle illegal characters in filenames.

Try midnight-commander, mozilla, konquerer, bash ...
