How can I view the bios version of a server while it is live ?

Assuming that you are running either Windows NT or Windows 200X, run the command WINMSD. This will give you a report of what is in your system.

If you want to view the "TRUE" version of the BIOS get a BIOS update from Compaqs web site, Boot from the disk and this will show you the correct "TRUE" version. Otherwise you can use the Compaw Management Tools and you should be able to get it there. this will breakdown all your hardware in your system...serial #'s etc..

Just to inform you I found a tool called Survey.exe which is a compaq tool available on the HP/Compaq website.

This tool details all aspects of the Server hardware and the Os

true, this tool truely shows you everything and is quite helpfully for troubleshooting, as it does a "snapshot" of the configuration of the system weekly.

Another cool utility is the "getconfig from HP", which works not only on HP-or Cpq-systems.

If you have installed the server agents, you just can access those via browser, or via Insightmanager. This tool shows you pertty much everything about your system while up and running. :)
