Hi all,

we just work with Oracle names Server since Oracle 8.0.6.
Now we have some 10.1 running, but they are not able to communicate with the 8.1.7 Name Server.
As I checked 10g there is no hint for name Services for 10g. Only 9i has install instructions.
Does 10g has a new service or will the 9i Mane Server work with 10g DB's ???

any hints welcome
Uwe

Hi again,

Oracle just told me that ONames is no longer available in 10g. The "new" feature is OID.
Has anyone information about installing OID in 10 g ?
What is neccesary or How to ....

regards
Uwe

ONames was desupported in 9i, I believe. It wasn't removed until 10g. Yes, the replacement is your choice of OID, tnsnames, easy connect, hostname, cds, or nis.

OID is Oracle's LDAP and heart of their identity management solution, which can also be used as a names server to support sqlnet lookups. I believe it requires you use 10gAS as the web/app server, does not support others. See the Oracle docs on Identity Management. It's a big thing, allocate a ton of time to this.
